Professional Experience That Helps You Prosper

I have an eclectic background touching a variety of industries such as retail, restaurant, cooperatives, information technology, non-profits and renewable energy as well as two different stints owning my own business. Most of my work has been with entrepreneurial minded people, passionate for their product, service or mission. I bring superior organizational skill and eye for detail to assist you in creating critical infrastructure, or improve your current processes, to free you to pursue your passion.

Education is a Never Ending Process

Education is not just a piece of paper, certificate or plaque that signifies the end of an effort.  It is an ongoing, lifelong endeavor to reach every potential we are meant to reach. My educational path has been a non-traditional one but along the way I have had lucky opportunities to learn by being an observer of life.

"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad." Anonymous

"The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn." Gloria Steinem

I completed my degree in Accounting as a returning adult student while managing the responsibilities of work and family. The combination of life and educational experience gives me a seasoned perspective to draw from to help you reach your business goals.

Working and Networking In The Professional Community

I have a friend who likes to say that wherever we go when we are together, she knows I will find someone I know. I love making connections, meeting new people and discovering something about them. The best is when we find we have something, or know someone, in common. At Skala Berndt CPA those kinds of opportunities lay the groundwork for matching a client with a skill to a client with a need and magic happens.

Enjoying Time Outside of Work

The best parts of my life begin and end with my husband Kurt, our daughter Chelsea and our son Karsten. Outside of work, I am happiest being with family and friends, especially when sharing good food and laughter.

"One of the best things people can have up their sleeve is a funny bone" Unknown

To counter that great food, I stay active by biking all the beautiful trails around the area, hiking, cross country skiing and hitting the gym on a regular basis. Although not talented enough to play a single note myself (yet!), I am a big music fan, particularly the Blues, and can be found attending many of Madison's summer festivals or concert venues to see live bands.
